Spots of Time 2020 -

William Wordsworth’s ‘Spots of Time’ are small, memorable events that to him occurred mainly outdoors, fleeting occurances that held the attention, weaving interconnected memory and perception.

Walking painting and drawing captivate me because of their unfinished nature, they are activities that I undertake every day, painterly moments are held in my mind whilst walking and the movement and detail of nature appear gift like when painting. Each of these works is an unique thing caught, the size of a piece of A4 paper like words on a page, a journal entry, they can be arranged as part of a greater whole interacting with the variations of their indoor locations. Scenes, sets, acts and words, hours in a day, moments in a walk, spots of time. Each individal work is 30 x 20 x 1.5 cm on a cradled panel, variously, ink, oil, gouache and watercolour.

‘Walking is a state of mind in which the mind, the body and the world are aligned as if they are three characters inconversation with one another.’ Rebecca Solnit
