“Here, viewing the artist’s Mynydd y Gaer series, we can reflect on more distant events and sensations. Her palimpsest of raw and robust paint marks and wash relay and provoke a much deeper time sphere. The once living shale and sandstone bedrock is of Silurianage: soft sediments accumulated 400 million years ago in a vast sea, south of the equator. Her slender black curves and lines are reminders of the now fossil, carbon-impressions of extinct colonial plankton –graptolites – the key means of dating these rocks. Broader streams of black recall later tumultuous, plate-tectonic, mountain-building forces; parallel marks cleavage in the rock. I see the trail of ice and meltwater, glacial sculpting and deposition which fashioned the fundamental topography of today’s landscape. A reflection of time and change.” Ken Brassil, Archaeologist.
